Legend of the Patriots (Hangul: 전우) is a remake of the 1975 South Korean drama Comrades.[1] Its production was spawned to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Korean War[2][3] The story centers around the lives of eleven Korean soldiers fighting in the Korean War.[4] Director Kim Sang-hwi remarked that the series is not about the ideologies of South and North Korea, but rather focuses on the struggles of ordinary people who lived through the war.[2]

Series synopsis
The main character, Lee Hyeon-joong is South Korean First Sergeant who discovers his girlfriend has defected to join the North Korean army. He then is given missions in which he has to fight with his girlfriend and North Koreans. He succeeds in the mission. However, five of his fellow soldiers are caught by NKPAs and are sent to a prison camp. Lee Hyun Joong intentionally gets captured by NKPAs in the prison camp in order to rescue his groupmmates. There are many rescue, attempts, one including one mission where Hyun Joong "turned" to North Koreans, but not by heart. This was actually part of the plan. One day when the camp director went to Pyongyang, the people there planned a rebellion to go out of the POW camp. It succeeded. They went their own ways. Hyun Joong's group went to their base but Park Juyong died after being forced to turn to the NKPAs. In a new mission where they have to protect a bridge, Hyun Joong's group is assigned to it. Then, in while searching the area Park Il-kwon is shot down by a sniper. The sniper was Sukyoung. Beomwoo was also captured, and killed by Woncheol later on. Taeksu, who couldn't go to the mission because of a paralyzed body because of Sukyoung, tries suicide. He could only move his head and hands. Before a new mission, Cheon Sung-il, a ROK, is thought as an AWOLed soldier, and is killed by Lee Hyun Joong, who cried for him after. A next mission was bloody, where the rest of the members died by snipers, except for Lee Hyun Joong. Meanwhile, Hyun Joong sees Sukyoung, and kills her. Then she is cremated in the South Korean base. The drama ends with Lee Hyun Joong going on a new mission as Master Sergeant with new members. [2]
